TMJ Symptoms

Some problems that occur at the jaw point can cause TMJ disorders. We can also say this is a group of some complex problems that causes in moving the jaws. Myofacial pain dysfunction and Costen's syndrome is also sometimes considered as temporomandibular joint disorder. The reason behind this is that the muscles and the bones have to work periodically in a specific order. So if any one of them starts to work irregularly or goes out of order, temporomandibular joint disorder can occur. A person suffering from TMJ disorder can have pain in ears, headaches, problems in chewing, hearing clicking sounds when opening or closing mouth and even the jaws being locked. The behaviour of a person who can have temporomandibular joint disorder is discussed below.

Bruxism can increase the wear on the place which is generally known as cartilage lining of the temporomandibular joint. Some people unconditionally without knowing grind or clench their teeth. This could lead them to temporomandibular joint disorder. Some of these patients are awakened in the morning having pain the jaws or ear.

Some people also have problem of biting fingers. Other than hygienic problem, it can also lead a person to TMJ disorder. Chewing gum that is a habit of a person can also cause this disorder.

A dental problem that is known as malocclusion is also one of the reasons of getting a disorder. Some people complaint that they have find themselves difficult to bite, chew or eat something. Other than that the order in which their teeth have to be has also changed. Chewing should also not be done from only one side of the jaw, because this can also lead to multiple complex problems in jaws and the joints.

Fractures in the jaws or facial bones are also dangerous when we are discussing about TMJ problems. Disturbance to the jaws is also dangerous.

Constant stress due to some shock can cause nervous energy unreleased. Some people start to release this energy in form of clenching their teeth. Some people do this in conscious and some of them do this unconsciously. Either way, this is not good for joints.

Some other things like managing the mount in such an order that they are not in their actual position for sometime can lead to pain and disturbance. Holding mobile phone or telephone is also one of the examples.
